How to Select the Right Pet Gate

The type of pet gate that one chooses should be influenced by several factors, such as the age and size of the dog or puppy, the distance to be spanned, and whether or not the owner minds putting holes in the frame of the door (although holes can be easily repaired with spackling compound and a little paint).

When containing a puppy or active chewer, choose a wire or tubular steel gate. If plastic or wood is the only option because of other factors, be sure to purchase a chew deterrent to spray on the pet gate. Always be aware of the size of the mesh or spacing between bars, taking into consideration the size of the pet you are containing.

Pet gates with extension panels are available when a large opening needs to be blocked. The Elongate Pet Gate will cover up to a thirteen foot width. Be sure to pay attention to how many panels the manufacturer recommends. Exceeding that limit will cause the pet gate to be flexible in the center, making it unsafe!
