Groom Yourself For the Holiday Rush

The holidays are a uniquely busy time for groomers. Not only is your shop’s schedule packed with appointments, but you’re also under pressure to fit in every customer in time for the big day.

Let’s face it, you can’t push a holiday cut back to the first week of January if your clippers fail in mid-December. Delays could lead to unhappy clients and lost profits.

Will you be ready to handle the demand when your bookings start to skyrocket?

Take the time now to do a thorough inventory of your supplies and equipment.

Do you have backup clippers on hand in case your clippers fail? Are your blades sharp and in good condition? Make sure you’re well stocked on spare parts and accessories like blade oil, cooling spray, carbon brushes, and blade drive assemblies.

What about your shears? Are they sharp and in good working order? It’s always a good idea to have some replacement shears on hand in case your favorite pair gets dropped or damaged.

Are you thinking about bringing in extra staff to help with the holiday rush? If so, it might be wise to invest in an inexpensive portable grooming table. A portable table like our Master Equipment™ Travel Table gives you the extra workspace you need at the time you need it most, and can then be folded neatly away once the holidays are over.

Take a thorough inventory of your consumable items to make sure you’re stocked up on everything you need. You’ll be using a lot more shampoos, conditioners, finishing sprays, and styptic powder, so you’ll want to have plenty in stock.

This is the time to order your holiday-scented shampoos and finishing sprays, as well as any holiday bows or bandanas that you want include with each grooming job—your customers will love the extra touch!

Here’s a tip from the grooming experts on our TechEdge team:
put fatigue-reducing mats underneath your grooming tables to provide extra comfort and cushioning during those long holiday grooming days. It’s a great way to reduce wear and tear on our legs, knees, and back.

Our grooming experts also recommend using our ProSelect® Cage Covers to keep pets calm and quiet while they’re being kenneled. A crowded grooming shop is almost always a loud grooming shop, so any way to gain some peace and quiet can be a big help.

Finally, you should start to strategize on how your shop is going to operate during the busy holiday season. There’s only so many hours that you can work each day, but you can stagger your opening times (start later in the day and close later at night) in order to accommodate your customers’ busy holiday schedules.

Many customers will also gladly pay a premium to have their pet groomed during extended shop hours.

The holiday season is always a challenge, but it can also be a fun, exciting, and profitable time of year if you plan well and rely on PetEdge for all your grooming shop needs.

Good luck and great grooming!
