Directions For Use:
CARE: Keep your Ear Scope in a safe place and out of reach of children. Be sure that it is turned off an extra half-turn for longer battery life. Store in a cool place or refrigerate. Since batteries can leak over time, remove the batteries for long-term storage.
SEPARATE PENLIGHT USE: The penlight is designed to separate from the Ear Scope at the friction point (see diagram) for two reasons: (1) to give you a separate, professional-quality penlight and (2) to focus the light beam when attached to the Ear Scope head. To detach: Gently wiggle the penlight while pulling it from the friction joint hole.
Uses two AAA alkaline batteries. To replace: Wiggle and pull the penlight to separate it from the Ear Scope head. Unscrew the penlight screw joint and remove the two batteries. Insert fresh batteries with positive (+) side pointing forward, then tighten the screw joint.
Uses a standard #222 miniature bulb found in many chain drugstores, hardware stores, and supermarkets.
To replace: If the bulb looks smoky and needs replacement, press the bulb backwards through the front hole using a pencil eraser or similar implement, then insert the bulb — lens first — into the front half of the penlight and push forward until fully seated and the glass end of the bulb is nearly flush with the penlight nose. A small screwdriver or rod helps guide it straight down the casing.
REFOCUSING: For a brighter light beam through the tip, refocus after you detach the penlight or change the bulb. To do this, turn on the penlight, loosely insert the penlight into the friction joint hole, and while holding the head, rotate the penlight clockwise to get the strongest beam of light through the viewing tip. To check: Hold the viewing tip one inch from a light-colored surface and observe the circle of light. Refirm the joint by pressing the penlight and head together.
- Depending on the size of the animal, choose a tip. The 4 mm one is intended for use on most small and medium pets; the 6.3 mm one is for larger animals.
- Fit the tip onto the scope. It should click snugly into place.
- Twist scope to activate light.
- Gently insert tip of scope into pet’s ear, taking care not to force it or poke as you observe.
- After each use, disinfect the tip (see CARE, Tips, below).

- Lens — Protect the lens from rubbing alcohol, fingerprints, dust, and liquids. Since alcohol can damage the lens, be sure to remove the tips from the head for cleaning. Blow off any dust or particles seen on the lens.
- Tips — Disinfect after each use. Remove the tip from the head (half-twist and pull) and remove particles and wax. Swab with rubbing alcohol. If infection is evident in the animal examined, soak tip in rubbing alcohol for 10 minutes. Avoid getting alcohol on lens. Do not autoclave or otherwise heat.
