Maybe the person who taught you how to groom told you to do it.
Perhaps you saw dogs that groomers had done this on a breed you were not very familiar with grooming, so you started doing it, too, thinking it was acceptable.
It's possible you did it by mistake once and then continued to do it because you didn't know how to fix it.
You could have done it one time to solve a problem (matting? Burrs?) and then continued the practice just because. But really, I hope you will consider stopping. You may ask, "Stopping what?" Here is the answer:
The unattractive and impractical grooming practice - shaving a dog's nose bridge. For some reason, this seems to be most common on Miniature Schnauzers, but I have seen many other breeds that have had the hair from under the eyes all the way down the top of the muzzle right to the nose leather zipped right off with a #10 blade, or maybe even shorter. You need to know that, barring some medical problems, shaving down the length of a dog's muzzle is improper. It creates an odd and unbalanced finished product and is a nightmare when it begins to grow out.
One of pet owners' top complaints is that the hair in front of their pet's eyes "grows so fast."When you have shaved the top of the nose, you have extra space for those annoying, spikey hairs to grow and stand up in front of the eyes, a look that pet owners do not like one bit.
If you have been shaving this area and don't know how to stop, or a new customer brings in a dog that was previously clipped this way, the best thing to do is to quit cold turkey. Tell the pet owner that you have learned how to make their pet look better but that there will be (literal) growing pains. Just clean the corners of the eyes with your clipper, cringe a little because change is hard, and let that hair grow. There will be a few months when it looks just awful. A little mousse or gel might help the growing hair lie flatter and make it easier for you and the pet owner, but to be honest, it will take some time to get past the ugly phase.
But then the happy day will arrive when the previously shaved fur will be long enough to lie flat, and you can begin to trim and shape the face more attractively. That is a good day. It is a day that you can celebrate a little and be proud that you are learning a better way to make dogs look their best.
