Using Photo Apps

Using Photo Apps

A new photography app on the market is a massive hit with pet groomers. It is called PhotoRoom. You can take it for a test drive for free for a week; after that, it costs around one hundred dollars a year.

This app enables groomers to snap a photo of a freshly groomed dog on their table or wherever convenient. The app then removes all the background clutter, including the grooming post and loop, the brush and piles of fur you forgot to remove from the table, your cup of coffee and half-eaten donut from the shelf behind your workstation. From there you can choose from an enormous variety of backdrops.

You can pop a freshly-fluffed Pomeranian into a backdrop of evergreen boughs and Christmas bulbs, a Husky into a field of snow, a Doodle posing with a birthday cake and the words “Happy Birthday” dancing over its head. Likewise, you can make it so that the perfectly groomed Poodle you are so proud of looks like it on the cover of a magazine or place a Portuguese Water Dog under a palm tree with waves in the background.

Another option is to put the perfectly cropped image on a solid-colored background, a clean and straightforward look that highlights the pet and the grooming.

The app allows other excellent editing options such as resizing, retouching, changing to black and white or sepia, adding a light blur, or the feeling of motion to a photo. It is easy to use, offering intuitive steps to allow one to spend time to create something extraordinary, or just take a moment to grab a fun image to share with customers.

This app can be a game changer for groomers who do not have the time, interest, or space to set up elaborate backdrops for photo sessions with the pets they care for. There is a slight learning curve to realize which poses and what angles work best when capturing images that will crop nicely and work well once cropped and placed in the background scene. For the best results, take the image at eye level with the pet, and not from a higher or lower plane. Taking several photos of each pet will give you room to experiment and see which will blend most seamlessly with the app's backgrounds.

Imagine how pleased your customers would be to receive the occasional photo of their pet beautifully presented with a creative background. Consider how you can edit your grooming pictures for your social media accounts or advertising. This nominal investment stands to pay big dividends in happiness alone!
